Packing Checklist for Friends of Garibaldi Park Trail Maintenance Volunteers

Most of the trails in Garibaldi Provincial Park are high in the mountains and the weather can change any time. Use this packing checklist to prepare for your volunteer trail maintenance shift.

Personal Gear

  • Wear quick-drying hiking clothing made of synthetics or wool. No cotton please. 
  • Hiking boots
  • Rain jacket
  • Fleece or puffy jacket
  • Lunch and snacks
  • Water (At least 2L)
  • Sunscreen and sunhat
  • Toilet paper and hand sanitizer
  • Map and compass
  • Bug spray or head net
  • Mask or face covering

Trail Maintenance Gear

  • Work gloves (we may have some you can borrow)
  • Sunglasses or safety glasses
  • Garbage bag
  • Phone (so you can use the camera and notes app to record trail conditions) or camera and notebook/pencil
  • GPS (if you have one)

Emergency Gear

  • Emergency whistle
  • First aid kit
  • Headlamp or flashlight
  • Knife
  • Matches or lighter
  • Orange garbage bag, space blanket or emergency shelter

Optional Gear (please bring it if you have it)

  • Satellite messenger (Spot, inReach, Zoleo, etc.)
  • Bear Spray
  • Extra work gloves to lend to others
  • Hand tools like snips, clippers, small shovels, etc.
